Every car enthusiast is interested in questions: which model is the best in the world, which cars are preferred in a particular country?

This can be estimated on the basis of world sales statistics, which are regularly conducted by analytical agencies and are then available to a wide range of people. According to the latest report published by Focus2move, the top ten most popular cars worldwide as of September 2023. The best-selling new car in all countries of the world as of September 2023 was the Tesla Model Y electric crossover. Despite the fact that until now “Toyota Corolla” remained the market leader, this Japanese sedan had to make room.

1. “Tesla”

As follows from the analytical report of “Focus2move”, “Tesla” still turned out to be the best seller in the world car market. Model Y sales jumped 65.9% in the January-August 2023 period compared to the same period last year, with a total of 883,982 electric cars sold.

Most Tesla electric cars can be found on California roads. The second largest buyer is China, where they bought 229 thousand Tesla models, despite the fact that this country has extremely tough competition among electric vehicles. Europe is in third place in terms of sales, where in the first quarter of 2023 about 94.7 thousand were sold, and this electric car is most preferred by the inhabitants of Norway – 50% of sales come from this country. The number of countries where “Tesla” is most actively bought includes Great Britain – 76.2 thousand sales for the first quarter of 2023.

2. “Toyota Corolla”

Last year, “Toyota Corolla” remained the best-seller worldwide, but at the moment the leader had to give up its well-deserved first place. Experts noted a drop in sales of the “Toyota Corolla” model, which amounted to -2%, a total of 815,035 cars were sold worldwide. Consequently, “Toyota Corolla” moves one step lower and takes the second place in the rating. The Toyota Corolla proved to be one of the best sellers of all time. The car is known for its reliability, efficiency and affordability. The largest market for Corolla is the USA, where 222.2 thousand cars were sold in 2022.

3. “Ford F”

Among the models leading the ranking of the most sold cars in the world is the Ford F-Series pickup truck, which occupies the third place on the list. In total, as of September of this year, 672,117 sales of Ford F-series pickups were registered in all countries of the world. This is 19.6% more than what was sold in the same period in 2022.

4. “Toyota RAV 4”

The Japanese crossover occupies the fourth position in the ranking, two points below. Toyota RAV4 sales totaled 651,117 vehicles worldwide, which is a percentage drop of -1.5% compared to the same period last year.

Obviously, the RAV4 has lost a lot of ground, as in 2022 it was the first among the best-selling cars in the world. Then 1 million 16 thousand “Toyota RAV4” were sold.

5. “Honda CRV”

The fifth place in terms of popularity and sales was taken by the Japanese SUV Honda CR-V. A total of 498,767 of these crossovers were sold, with an increase of 8.1% compared to the previous period.

6. “Toyota Camry”

The next model included in the list of best-selling models in the world market is “Toyota Camry”. This car occupies the sixth position in the ranking, despite the fact that sales of business-class sedans from Japan fell by -5.5% compared to last year, amounting to 463,836 cars in September 2023.

7. Hyundai Tucson

The South Korean SUV “Hyundai Tucson” is confidently in the seventh place, whose global sales grew by 12.1%, which numerically amounts to 463,059 vehicles. At the end of 2022, the Tucson was not among the best-selling vehicles in the world.

Tucson has become the best-selling compact SUV in Europe in 2022. This year, 150,803 new “Hyundai” were registered – eighth in sales in the European Union.

8. “Chevrolet Silverado”

With global sales growth of 4.9%, the full-size Chevrolet Silverado pickup entered the rankings – 453,640 vehicles of this model were sold during the period.

9. “Toyota Hilux”

The penultimate place on the list is occupied by the “Toyota Hilux” pickup truck. Although its global sales were down slightly by 2.8%, total sales were 435,834 units, allowing the Hilux to make the cut.

10. RAM Pickup

And finally, the last place of honor was taken by the Ram pickup truck, which showed a 6.1% drop in sales. A total of 395,234 vehicles were sold in the eight months of 2023.
